Our Porsche Macan EV Cannot Justify Its $100,000 Price Tag

We’ve been living with a Porsche Macan EV for the better part of six months now. In that time, Edmunds staffers have put just over 8,000 miles on the odometer, and our logbook is brimming with comments — both positive and negative. But one thing that keeps coming up is just how much money we spent on this vehicle not translating into the experience we expected.

For $100,000, we anticipated top-of-the-line performance, cutting-edge technology, and the unparalleled luxury that Porsche is renowned for. While the Macan EV has its strengths, several aspects have fallen short of justifying the hefty price tag.

Interior Quality and Features: The interior, while stylish, doesn’t feel as luxurious as we’d hoped for the price. The materials are good, but not the premium quality we expected. Additionally, some of the infotainment features feel a bit dated compared to other high-end EVs in the market. We were expecting more intuitive interfaces and advanced tech integrations that are now standard elsewhere.

Performance vs. Expectations: Performance-wise, the acceleration is impressive, but the handling isn’t as sharp as expected from a Porsche. The ride can be a bit stiff, making long drives less comfortable. We also noticed that the battery range, while decent, doesn’t quite match the real-world expectations set by the manufacturer, leading to more frequent charging stops than we anticipated.

Customer Service: Another disappointing aspect has been the customer service experience. We’ve encountered delays and less-than-ideal support when trying to address minor issues. For a brand like Porsche, we expected a higher level of after-sales service and quicker resolutions to problems.

Resale Value Concerns: Given the rapid advancements in EV technology, we’re concerned about the resale value of the Macan EV. As newer models with better features enter the market, we’re unsure how well this model will hold its value over time.

Overall Value: Don’t get us wrong, the Macan EV is a solid vehicle with its merits, but for the $100,000 price tag, we expected something more extraordinary. We’re curious to hear if others share similar sentiments or if we’re overlooking some of the Macan EV’s strengths. Has anyone else found the Porsche Macan EV not living up to its price? What factors influenced your perception?

Looking forward to the discussion!

Has anyone experienced better battery performance? We’ve had to charge more often than anticipated, which kind of offsets the convenience of owning an EV.

We’ve been thinking the same thing! The Macan EV feels nice, but for $100k, we expected much more in terms of tech and comfort. Hoping Porsche addresses these issues in future updates.

Regarding resale value, I’m also concerned. With EV technology evolving so quickly, it’s hard to say how well the Macan EV will hold up compared to newer models coming out next year.
